Mission Statement
The Japanese principles of Wabi-sabi and Kintsugi influences the Another World collection of sculptural artefacts, jewellery and installations; all of which are inspired by the fragile beauty of the natural world.
In this throwaway society the mantra Re-use, Recycle, Repair and Restore is the precursor of each new collection which celebrates the acceptance of transience and imperfection.
During the years 1986- 2012, documenting photographically the symbiotic behaviour between the inhabitants of the reef was at the forefront of my career as a marine photographer.
Reefs around the globe, in both temperate and tropical seas, are under threat from greenhouse gas emissions, plastic pollution and over-fishing. The pristine reefs that existed in the early eighties are unrecognisable, damaged and bleached by pollution and global warming. Coral reefs and their inhabitants are diverse and occasionally dangerous.
Conservation and preservation of the world beneath the waves is vital as it is one of the lungs of planet Earth.
Conservation begins at home, I believe that it is essential to re-use, refurbish, restore and renovate rather than re-purchase. The mantra is a simple task that everyone can embrace.

Artist Statement
Born to a large family of dressmakers, it was no surprise that Heather followed in their footsteps with a love of textiles. Following retirement in 2010, Heather joined Penwith Textile and Embroidery Group where tutor Sheila Brough taught artistic originality with textiles, the textile adventure had begun.
Prior to retirement, Heather's career as a marine photographer focused on worldwide travel and the marine life in both temperate and tropical seas. The experience developed a hunger to support conservation in the natural world.
The decision to join the  Textile Design BA (Hons) degree course as a mature student has enriched and widened Heather’s creativity, introducing her to different techniques and medias such as ceramics, glass and beadwork.
Drawing on photographic documentation, “Another World” highlights the fragility of the world beneath the waves. The collection is colourful, bold, unique and thought provoking. The aesthetics of Wabi -sabi and Kintsugi influences all Heather’s collections of sculptural artefacts, jewellery and installations. In this throwaway society  Re-use, Recycle, Repair and Restore is the precursor to each of Heather’s collections celebrating acceptance of transience and imperfection.
Prior to the outbreak of the COVID 19  pandemic Heather, was collaborating with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution; embellishing and re-using their used towing and mooring ropes in her sea-inspired artefact collections. This collaboration will continue when the Government restriction are lifted.
Following graduation Heather will take up residency as artist and workshop tutor based at The Bowji Gallery and Studio St Keverne, Helston Cornwall TR12 6NX.
